Handwerks is a German word that translates as “the work of the hands” and is a collection of stories told by skilled tradespeople who talk about what they do, who and what inspired them, their early steps to learning and mastery, and what it is like to build a life through “the work of the hands.”

Our objective is to inform young people about career opportunities in the Building, Historic Preservation, Automotive and Mechanical, Fine Woodworking, Traditional Arts and Crafts, and Energy-related trades. We encourage teachers, parents, and friends to share this site with young people. Let them explore and listen, and think - and dream.

We’re gathering and uploading information on internships, apprenticeships, classes, and other opportunities now. This is a resource that will expand significantly over time. To view historic preservation learning opportunities, go to the Historic Preservation tab below.

When exploring different options for the future, the right story at the right time told by the right person can be the catalyst.

Handwerks is a work in progress. Be sure to check back.
