SPI’s K-3 Learning Lab

For this project, SPI shares timeless and imaginative fictional stories, including folklore, fables, and contemporary stories with the younger set. Our stories, told by a diverse group of world-class master storytellers, are something akin to a cultural kaleidoscope. The collection includes traditional African and African-American folktales, bi-lingual stories from Latin America, stories of the First Nations, tales from the Pacific Rim, nursery rhyme sing-alongs, Aesop’s fables, stories from Denmark, Russia, Italy, and contemporary takes of enchantment. In 2020 we produced a series of American Sign Language-interpreted stories for deaf and hard-of-hearing kids. All of the stories in our collection foster English Language literacy and social and emotional learning as they spark kids’ imagination.

SPI’s 4-12 Learning Lab

This project is a one-of-a-kind online collection of first-person narratives told by extraordinary people in the fields of the arts, sciences, humanities, and skilled trades, as well as eyewitnesses to history. All of our contributors tell stories that educate and inspire young people, foster creative and critical thinking, and open pathways to possible career choice. New this year, SPI’s Handwerks project. Handwerks is a German word that translates as “the work of the hands” and references skilled trade work. For young people exploring different options for their future, the right story at the right time told by the right person can be the catalyst.
